An appreciation - Professor Anton Jayasuriya

Lord Pundit Raja Guru Professor Dr. Sir Anton Jayasuriya, my beloved teacher has died. He passed away peacefully leaving a million of his patients, students and loved ones all over the world.

His last wish was to have a simple funeral, which illustrates and exposes his humble inner nature in spite of an appearance to the contrary.

Barely 15 years in or so when I first saw this great teacher, he was giving lectures on Chinese philosophy and acupuncture at Navarangahala.

Anton was born on 20 June 1930 and had his primary and secondary education at St.Sebastian's College Moratuwa before entering Medical college and passing.

Navarangahala was one of the important theatre halls at that time and it happened to be part of my school.

Professor's lectures became a regular event and I did not miss one. I remember his thick moustache and his national dress.

His lectures were interesting as he spoke of things that do not tally with conventional wisdom. He was a wise man and very simple. He did not seem very serious, but I am sure he was.
